Following the Vietnamese Party General Secretary Nguyen Phu Trong's passing, Cuba declared a national mourning from 6 AM on July 20 to the end of July 21 (Cuban time). On July 19, the Cuban National Assembly also observed a minute of silence in his memory.

A book was launched by the Latin American News Agency, Prensa Latina, in Havana on September 13, marking the 50th anniversary of the Cuban leader's historic visit to Vietnam.
