The Lao government has signed an agreement with a private company to launch a forest carbon credit initiative in an effort to reduce greenhouse gas emissions from forest destruction and forest degradation.

2023 marked a significant milestone for the forestry sector as Vietnam successfully sold 10.3 million forest carbon credits (equivalent to 10.3 million tonnes of CO2) for the first time through the World Bank for 51.5 million USD.
