At exactly 6am on May 24, the flag-lowering ceremony was solemnly conducted at Ba Dinh Square in Hanoi, marking the beginning of the two-day state funeral for former Politburo member and former President of the Socialist Republic of Vietnam Tran Duc Luong.
A solemn memorial service was held at the National Funeral Hall in Hanoi on the morning of May 24 to pay tribute to former President Tran Duc Luong, in accordance with state funeral protocol. The ceremony was organised by the Communist Party of Vietnam Central Committee, the National Assembly, the President, the Government, the Vietnam Fatherland Front Central Committee, and the family of the late President.
Former President of Vietnam Tran Duc Luong passed away at his home at 22:51 on 20 May, aged 88, following a period of illness despite the dedicated efforts of the Party, State, medical professionals, and his family. His passing marks a great loss to the Party, the State, and the people of Vietnam.
