The Giong Festival, also known as the Festival of Phu Dong Village (Gia Lam District, Hanoi), is one of the largest traditional festivals in the Red River Delta region. It was recognised by UNESCO as an Intangible Cultural Heritage of Humanity in 2010. The festival re-enacts two legendary battles fought by Saint Giong, as well as the ceremonial procession, drawing thousands of locals and visitors each year.
Vietnam’s heritage has increasingly contributed to local economic development. However, long-term strategies are essential for preserving, restoring, and promoting cultural landmarks while boosting tourism.
The Bai Dinh Pagoda Festival officially opened in Gia Vien district in the northern province of Ninh Binh on February 21 (the sixth day of the first lunar month).
The Giong Festival began in Phu Dong village, Gia Lam district, Hanoi, on May 2 or the seventh day of the fourth month of the lunar calendar, attracting many tourists.
