Cambodian Minister of Water Resources and Meteorology Thor Chetha said ASEAN has emerged as a hotspot for the impacts brought on by the changing climate such as floods, droughts, and heatwaves.

More than 1,100 natural disasters have taken place across Vietnam this year, heard a conference held by the office of the National Steering Committee for Natural Disaster Prevention and Control in Hanoi on December 22.

The heatwaves occurring across ASEAN countries signal the return of El Niño after three years. In this context, HSBC believes that Vietnamese agricultural products, including rice and coffee, are highly vulnerable.

The ongoing intense heatwaves across the country are not only adversely affecting people’s health but also causing high risks of wildfires.
