A total of 350 diverse and curated artworks will be put up for sale online in the Vietnamese and British markets. Organized by Le Auction House on July 27 and July 28, the auction also aims to mark the 100th establishment anniversary of the Indochina College of Fine Arts.
Traditional lacquer art painted on cultural artifacts in Ha Thai village, Thuong Tin, Hanoi dates back to the 17th century. In the 1930s, the first Vietnamese painters studying at the Indochina College of Fine Arts (now the Vietnam Fine Arts University) sought ways to develop lacquer techniques. Village artisans applied the techniques immediately to refine and perfect their products.
Paintings of renowned Vietnamese artists have continually been up for auction at home and aboard recently, attracting artwork hunters from both Vietnam and other countries.
