Ninh Thuan (VNA) – With considerable solar and windadvantages, the  is working hard to attractinvestment in a bid to become a renewable energy centre of Vietnam.

Ninh Thuan is set to attract wind and solarpower projects with total respective capacity of 1,429 MW and 3,912 MW by 2030.

The Prime Minister and the Ministry of Industryand Trade have agreed to add 15 wind power projects into the country’selectricity development plan. With combined capacity of 748.75 MW andregistered capital of roughly 27.58 trillion VND (1.21 billion USD), 12 ofthese projects have been granted with investment certificates.

Meanwhile, 25 solar power projects in Ninh Thuanhave been added to the national electricity development plan. Eighteen of theseprojects were approved, with total capacity of 999 MW and registered capital ofnearly 27.88 trillion VND (1.22 billion USD).

To become a renewable energy centre, theprovince is promoting investment attraction and creating the best possibleconditions for investors to accelerate the progress of renewable energyprojects.

In particular, investors operating in renewableenergy will be exempted from land rent during the implementation of projectsand benefit from corporate income tax rate of 10 percent. The corporate incometax will be exempted in four years and cut by half in the nine following years.Additionally, their projects will also be exempted from tariffs on importedgoods.

Vice Chairman of the provincial People’sCommittee Pham Van Hau said Ninh Thuan prioritises capable and experiencedinvestors who have modern technologies and high resolve to carry out renewableenergy projects in the province.

The provincial administration will continuedirecting relevant departments and agencies to work with investors to speed upthe settlement of procedure and site clearance obstacles to projects.

When operational, wind and solar power projectswill greatly contribute to national energy security and the province’ssocio-economic development, he noted.

Pham Dang Thanh, Director of the provincialDepartment of Industry and Trade, said to facilitate the factories’ connectionwith the national grid, Ninh Thuan has asked the Government to developelectricity transmission infrastructure as the province’s transmission networkis still modest and unable to serve all renewable energy projects. It has alsorequested the government to increase wind power prices from the current levelof 7.8 US cent per kWh.

Work on renewable energy projects in Ninh Thuanis being accelerated so as to complete on schedule.

Four wind power projects are under constructionand expected to be put into operation in 2018. With three turbines and capacityof 6 MW, the first phase of Dam Nai wind power plant in Ninh Hai and Thuan Bacdistricts has become operational. The entire project, which has total capacityof 40 MW, will be completed this year.

The three other wind power projects are hoped tohave their first phase finished later this year. They are Mui Dinh plant (37.6MW) in Thuan Nam district and Trung Nam (105.75 MW) and Cong Hai 1 (40.5 MW)factories in Thuan Bac district.

Meanwhile, some solar power projects are alsoscheduled to generate electricity this year, including Bim plant (30 MW) andBau Ngu Lake plant (50 MW) in Thuan Nam district.

Notably, the CMX Renewable Energy Vietnamfactory in Ninh Son district will have capacity of 168 MW. This is the biggestsolar power project in Vietnam so far and set to become operational in June2019.-VNA
