The shrimp sector should be developed in value chain so as to gain competitive edge amidst prolonged challenges like global economic recession, tensions in the Red Sea, and anti-dumping measures from the US, according to insiders.

Shrimp experts and businesses gathered at the Shrimp Summit 2023 in Ho Chi Minh City on July 25 to seek measures to tackle challenges facing the shrimp sector in Asia and the globe, ensuring the sustainability and climate change resilience of the sector.

An aquaculture conference was held in the Mekong Delta province of Soc Trang on March 3 to discuss how to boost the shrimp sector's development.

Minister of Agriculture and Rural Development (MARD) Nguyen Xuan Cuong has asked localities and enterprises to deploy measures to optimise opportunities for the shrimp sector to achieve the goal of 4.1-4.2 billion USD in export in 2019.

The southernmost province of Ca Mau has devised various measures, including boosting trade promotion activities, to expand and adjust the structure of its export markets, towards realising its target of earning 1.2 billion USD from exports in 2019.

The Mekong Delta province of Ben Tre will be developing its shrimp sector’s value chain with intensive farming and advanced technological application, aiming to make it the spearhead of the locality’s industrial production sector by 2025, according to Vice Chairman of the provincial People’s Committee Nguyen Huu Lap.
