Vietnam has successfully hosted the 2025 UN Day of Vesak Celebrations, drawing Buddhist dignitaries, monks, nuns and followers from numerous countries. Giang noted that this year’s event coincided with Vietnam’s 50th anniversary of national reunification and forthcoming 80th National Day.
Over 2,000 domestic and international delegates gathered at Ba Den Mountain National Tourist Site in the southern province of Tay Ninh on May 8 to conduct a sacred ceremony to enshrine the sacred Śarīra of Shakyamuni Buddha and pray for world peace as part of the UN Day of Vesak Celebrations (Vesak 2025).
Underlining Buddhism’s response to pressing global challenges, the declaration features contents about solidarity and tolerance for human dignity, cultivation of inner peace for global peace, healing through mindfulness and reconciliation, and promotion of solidarity and cooperation efforts for global harmony, among others.
Most Venerable Thich Tri Quang, the Supreme Patriarch of the Patronage Council of the Vietnam Buddhist Sangha (VBS), wished that all Buddhists around the world will unite and actively join hands with the entire humanity to create a truly peaceful and happy world.
The UN Vesak 2025, themed “Unity and Inclusivity for Human Dignity: Buddhist Insights for World Peace and Sustainable Development,” will take place in Ho Chi Minh City from May 6 to 8, expected to draw 1,200 delegates from 85 countries and territories, including dozens of heads of states.
The 20th UN Day of Vesak Celebrations will enhance the role of Vietnamese Buddhism in international integration while introducing Vietnam's people, culture, history, and Buddhist traditions to international delegates. Besides, it will help develop spiritual tourism potential, contributing to Vietnam's comprehensive cooperation with countries worldwide.
The northern province of Ninh Binh on May 14 welcomed nearly 130 delegates of the UN Day of Vesak 2019 after the event had wrapped up in nearby Ha Nam province the same day.
All preparations are ready for the opening ceremony of the UN Day of Vesak celebrations at the Tam Chuc Buddhism Culture Centre in the northern province of Ha Nam.
Up to 1,500 international delegates from 106 countries and territories and the United Nations (UN) will attend the UN Day of Vesak Celebrations 2019 slated for May 12-14 at Tam Chuc pagoda in Ha Nam.
