Since President Ho Chi Minh founded Thanh Nien (Young People) newspaper in 1925, the Vietnamese revolutionary press has become the voice of the people. During the resistance war against the colonialists, journalists took great personal risks to inspire patriotism and the will of rising up against foreign invaders.
The 2024 National Press Festival in Ho Chi Minh City from March 15-17 is a grand event for journalists around the country. Hosted by the Vietnam Journalists’ Association and co-organised by the Ho Chi Minh City People’s Committee, this year’s event is the largest ever.
Ninety-six years ago on June 21, 1925, the first issue of Thanh nien (Young people) newspaper representing the voice of Vietnamese Revolutionary Youth League founded by President Ho Chi Minh was published, marking the birth of Vietnam’s revolutionary press as the country remained under the yoke of French colonial rule.
COVID-19 has changed the way society consumes news and content in the last two years, forcing the journalism industry to go digital to maintain viewers and readers. Besides the exciting experience, digital transformation remains a challenge to most of press agencies in Vietnam.
The national press festival, themed “Vietnamese press accompanies the nation in renovation”, is slated for March 16 – 18 at the Hanoi Museum, heard a press conference on March 6.
