LaoCai (VNA) – The 19th Vietnam-China border economic and trade fair kickedoff in Lao Cai city of the northern province of the same name on November 12.
Theevent, part of the 2019 National Trade Promotion Programme, is being organisedby the Trade Promotion Agency under the Ministry of Industry and Trade (MoIT),the Lao Cai Department of Industry and Trade, and the trade authorities of Honghe prefecture of China’s Yunnan province.
Speakingat the opening ceremony, Vice Chairman of the Lao Cai People’s Committee LeNgoc Hung stressed that the Lao Cai and China’s Yunnan province have nurtured atraditional friendship. The two localities have over the years joined hands tofoster socio-economic development.
Export-importrevenues through Lao Cai-Hekou border gates report an average growth of nearly20 percent per year, while the flow of tourist through their border gates risesover 21 percent annually, he noted.
Thebilateral cooperation in agriculture, education, health care, culture, sportsand crime prevention recorded fruitful results, Hung added.
Withmore than 800 booths set up by Vietnamese and Chinese businesses, and thosefrom Thailand and the Republic of Korea, the fair introduces a wide range offarm produce, seafood, building materials and handicrafts.
Theannual event is rotationally held by Vietnam’s Lao Cai province and China’sYunnan province, aiming to promote trade between investors from the twocountries and others.
Itoffers a chance for participating businesses to promote their products and seekopportunities to expand the markets.
Withinthe framework of the five-day event, there will be a seminar on economic andtrade cooperation between Lao Cai and Yunnan provinces, and the signing ofcontracts between Vietnamese and Chinese enterprises. As many as 24 businessesof the two sides have registered to ink contracts worth more than 300 millionUSD.
Onthe occasion, a Chinese delegation will pay fact-finding trips to industrialestablishments, border gate economic zones and tourist destinations of Lao Cai.
Vietnamhas seven provinces bordering China, namely Lang Son, Quang Ninh, Ha Giang, LaiChau, Lao Cai, Cao Bang and Dien Bien./.
