HCM City (VNA) –
Vietnamese agro-firmsshould increase high added value for their products by improving businessproduction procedures in line with international practices, especially inpackaging and designing, heard a workshop held in Ho Chi Minh City on August17.

To date, Vietnam has nearly 40 products withgeographical indication, an advantage for the country to boost exports to othermarkets.

Geographical indication is considered aneffective tool that businesses should persistently pursue, experts said, suggesting the Government put forth more encouragement policies in this field.

There is a high possibility that the EU-VietnamFree Trade Agreement (EVFTA) will be approved at the end of this year, thusopening up numerous export opportunities for the two business communities.

Despite this, the pact requires businesses toovercome a number of technical barriers such as labelling and packaging, andproviding information related to the goods, especially issues related tocertifying quality and animal and plant quarantine.

The deal will exert certain impact on someindustries including animal husbandry, so domestic businesses should preparesoon to compete with other nations having higher technologies and qualityproducts.

Businesses should pay due attention to theorigin of products to optimise advantages from the EVFTA.

The application of the Global Good AgriculturalPractice (Global GAP) will make it easier for Vietnamese firms to enter theEuropean market, the panels suggested.-VNA
