Ambassador: Vietnam continues to boost ties with US

WashingtonDC. (VNA) – Vietnam will work with the new administration andCongress of the US to continue fostering the two countries’ comprehensivepartnership in economy, trade, national security, education, science-technology,and settlement of post-war consequences, a Vietnamese diplomat has stressed.

Vietnamese Ambassador to the US Pham Quang Vinh made the statement at a recent meetingin Washington DC with Chairman of Asia and the Pacific subcommittee under the ForeignAffairs Committee in the Lower Chamber of the US Congress Ted Yoho.

Vinhspoke highly of the support of the subcommittee and the Chairman for theVietnam-US relations and updated him on the reform process and external policiesof Vietnam.

Ted Yohoexpressed his delight at the fast and comprehensive development in the twonations’ relationship, particularly in economy and education-training.

Hepraised the success of the Vietnamese community in the US in general and inFlorida State in particular.

The USCongress attaches importance to cooperation with the Asian and Pacific region,including ASEAN partners and Vietnam, he said.

It alsosupports cooperation in ensuring peace, security, stability and development in theregion, including the East Sea issue, Ted said, hailing the role of Vietnam inthe region, especially its hosting of the APEC Year 2017.

The twosides agreed to continue promoting the Vietnam – the US comprehensivepartnership in a practical, stable and long-term manner while maintaininghigh-level delegation exchanges and strengthening bilateral and multilateralcooperation.

Vietnamwill continue effectively implementing the commitments to free trade mechanismsto which it is a member, and creating favourable conditions for foreignbusinesses, including those from the US, Vinh said, adding that the countrywill also encourage domestic enterprises to invest in the US.

Regardingto the APEC Vietnam 2017, the ambassador said Vietnam will work closely with theUS leaders and firms and those from other economies to create more impetusesfor the development of the Asia-Pacific region, for the benefits and prosperityof the member economies and the whole region.-VNA
