Hanoi (VNA) –𒁏 The statistics sector started the 2025 enterprise census nationwide on April 1, according to the National Statistics Office of Vietnam (NSO) under the Ministry of Finance.

NSO Director Nguyen Thi Huong said the annual survey will collect information about businesses, cooperatives, and cooperative unions to support management, governance, evaluation, and forecasting of the socio-economic situation, as well as the building of policies and development plans for the entire economy and each locality. It will also serve the calculation of gross domestic product (GDP), localities' gross regional domestic product (GRDP) in 2024, other statistical indicators within the system of national accounts, and statistical indicators of economic sectors, she added.
The census will span all the 63 provinces and centrally-run cities in Vietnam, targeting enterprises and cooperatives engaging in production and business activities across almost all sectors defined in the Vietnam Standard Industrial Classification (VSIC 2018), except for those involved in activities of the Communist Party, socio-political organisations, state management, national security and defence, and mandatory social security; activities of international organisations and agencies; along with household employment and production of goods and services for household self-consumption. The survey will be conducted from April 1 through July 31 in Hanoi and Ho Chi Minh City, through June 30 in the provinces and cities housing at least 5,000 enterprises, and through May 31 in the remainders. Meanwhile, economic groups and corporations will be surveyed from June 1 through July 15.
The census adopts an indirect survey method, collecting information through electronic webform questionnaires. Interviewees will provide their data via the NSO’s online enterprise survey portal, //thongkedoanhnghiep.gov.vn. As of December 31, 2023, Vietnam had nearly 921,400 active enterprises nationwide, up 2.8% compared to the same period in 2022. The service sector recorded the highest number of enterprises, over 628,000, accounting for 68.2% of the total. Meanwhile, HCM City was home to the largest number of companies, 273,100 or 29.6%, according to the Vietnam Enterprise White Book 2024 compiled by the NSO./.
