Anti-dumping tax levied on sorbitol products from China, India, Indonesia

The Ministry of Industry and Trade (MoIT) has decided to impose an anti-dumping tax ranging between 39.63-68.5 percent on sorbitol imports from China, India and Indonesia.

Hanoi (VNA) – The Ministry of Industry and Trade (MoIT) has decided to impose ananti-dumping tax ranging between 39.63-68.5 percent on sorbitol imports fromChina, India and Indonesia.

TheMoIT started the anti-dumping investigation in December 2020 based on the assessmentresults of dossiers submitted by the domestic industry in September 2020,requesting for the imposition of anti-dumping measures against these products.

Duringthe seven months of preliminary investigation, the MoIT has coordinated withrelevant agencies to carefully evaluate the allegations,including dumping acts by exporters of China, India and Indonesia and damage tothe Sorbitol production industry of Vietnam.

Theinvestigation results indicated that the volume of dumped sorbitol importsincreased in the period from April 1, 2017 to March 31, 2020, causing pressureon the operation of the domestic manufacturing industry. It was reflected insuch criteria as output, capacity utilisation, inventory, market share,domestic sales and revenue, profit and ability to raise capital.

Duringthe investigation period, these indexes showed a downward trend compared to theprevious time.

Inthe coming time, in order to come to a final conclusion on the case, the ministrywill continue to work with relevant parties to collect information to assessthe comprehensive impact of the case on related parties, including end consumers.The investigation is expected to be finished in the third quarter of 2021.

Sorbitol, also known as glucitol, is generatedfrom refined glucose under high temperature and pressure, hydrogenated withnickel, which is often used in medicine production, food and cosmetic industry./.
