APEC’s trade ministers meet in Philippines

Trade ministers from 21 member economies of the Asia Pacific Economic Cooperation (APEC) forum commenced their meeting in the central Philippine province of Aklan on May 23.

Duringthe two-day event, they sought consensus on the details for realisingthe initiative on a Free Trade Area of the Asia-Pacific (FTAAP), whichis expected to be announced in late 2016.

Theirdiscussions also focus on promoting service trade, fightingprotectionist movement in world trade, and development of infrastructurefacilities in the region.

Despite this, regional countries, including eight of ten ASEAN member states, remain committed to climate goals, including net-zero emissions and tripling global renewable capacity by 2030.
