Armenian PM begins official visit to Vietnam

Prime Minister of Armenia Nikol Pashinyan and his spouse began an official visit to Vietnam from July 4-7 at the invitation of Prime Minister Nguyen Xuan Phuc.

– Prime Minister of Armenia Nikol Pashinyan and his spouse beganan official visit to Vietnam from July 4-7 at the invitation of Prime MinisterNguyen Xuan Phuc.

TheArmenian leader was accompanied by Minister of High-Technological IndustryHakob Arshakyan, Minister of Economic Development and Investments TigranKhachatryan, Deputy Foreign Minister Avet Adonts, Armenian Ambassador toVietnam Raisa Vardanyan, the PM’s chief foreign policy adviser Arsen Gasparyanand Press Secretary to the PM Vladimir Karapetyan.

Thevisit aims to enhance the traditional friendship and cooperation between thetwo countries, and discuss collaboration in the areas of both sides’ potentiallike trade, investment, education, training, culture, tourism, as well as someregional and international issues of shared concern.

Vietnamand Armenia have maintained good political ties since they establisheddiplomatic ties on July 14, 1992. Armenia opened its embassy in Vietnam inAugust 2013.

Thetwo countries have set up an inter-governmental committee for Economic,Commercial, Scientific and Technological Cooperation, which convened its firstmeeting in March 2017.

Economic-commercialcooperation between the two countries remains modest, standing at 3.6 millionUSD in 2018. Vietnam signed a free trade agreement with the Eurasian EconomicUnion (EAEU), to which Armenia is a member, in May 2015. The deal took effecton October 5, 2016.

Vietnamand Armenia have signed agreements on cooperation in economy-trade, culture andscience-technology, and investment encouragement and protection. The twocountries also waive visas for each other’s bearers of diplomatic and officialpassports.-VNA
