ASEAN promotes integration on energy

As many as 80 delegates from ASEAN member countries, the International Energy Agency and the Economic Research Institute for ASEAN and East Asia gathered in Vientiane on January 12-13 for an ASEAN Senior Officials Meeting on Energy (SOME).

The event reviewed theresults on energy among the group over the past five years, anddiscussed orientations for cooperation until 2020.

Participantsalso discussed a number of measures on energy saving, sustainable energyuse, the clean coal technology, and ASEAN high voltage transmissionlines.

A cooperation framework between ASEAN and Russia and theissues on prices, services and the implementation of a project on Laosselling electricity to Singapore were tabled during the event.

Earlier, in September, the 32nd ASEAN Ministers on Energy Meeting (AMEM) was organised in Vientiane.

Energy cooperation is considered as a key sector of the ASEAN Economic Community AEC) which is formed in the year.-VNA
