Vientiane (VNA) – The ASEAN Senior Officials’ Meeting (SOM) took place in Vientiane, Laos, on July 22, with the aim to prepare for the 49th ASEAN Foreign Ministers’ Meeting (AMM) and related meetings slaꦕted for two day༒s later.

The Vietnamese delegation was led by Deputy Foreign Minister Le Hoai Trung.
Participating senior officials discussed the AMM agenda, while reviewing documents to be approved at these meetings. Attracting the participation of 27 foreign ministers, including 10 from ASEAN nations and 17 partner countries, the AMM is the most important event of the year of the ASEAN diplomatic sector.
Foreign ministers are expected to exchange opinions on directions and measures to boost ASEAN cooperation and collaboration between the group and its partners, as well as on regional and international issues of shared concern. The most important issues of the group in 2016 will be finalised during the AMM to be submitted to the ASEAN Summit, scheduled for this September.-VNA
