Sydney (VNA) – Australia on February 25 warned of terror threat in Indonesia and advised Australian travelers to take precautions when travelling to the Southeast Asian country.
In an updated travel advisory, the Department of Foreign Affairs and Trade (DFAT) stated recent indications suggest that terrorists may be in the advanced states of preparing attacks in Indonesia, naming Jakarta, Bali, and Lombok.
The advisory did not raise the overall threat level among Australian travelers to Indonesia which is already at a high degree of caution, but advised travelers to be particularly careful when in places that have low levels of security and while at possible terrorist targets, listing previous attack sites such as nightclubs, bars, cafes, restaurants, international hotels, airports and places of worship.
It added that the Indonesian government has recently increased security across the country, which underscores the ongoing high threat of a terrorist attack.
However, a spokesman for Indonesia’s national police said authorities had not seen any indications of an imminent attack.
