Hanoi (VNA) - With demand for environmentally friendly cars increasing inVietnam, local automakers and traders are going green to win market share.
Headof the Ministry of Industry and Trade’s Heavy Industry Department Truong ThanhHoai said the Government and the ministry encouraged automakers and traders toproduce and sell environmentally friendly vehicles.
“Thisorientation has been manifested in the Government’s strategy and planning forthe automobile industry’s development and other policies. ‘Green’ productionand consumption are the trend of the future and indispensable in Vietnam,” Hoaisaid.
Accordingto the Vietnam Automobile Manufacturers’ Association (VAMA), environmentalpollution has become more serious in urban areas because of vehicles, whichcause pollution containing carbon dioxide, lead and nitrogen oxide.
Toreduce pollution, VAMA said local automakers had renovated technologies inrecent years to adapt to global trends; introducing models that save fuel,reduce emissions and are environmentally friendly.
Variousnew technologies have been introduced in Vietnam. Ford Vietnam has usedecoBoost technology, Toyota Motor Vietnam also introduced hybrid technology,Fuso has debuted Canter E-vell Zero Co2 and Mitsubishi has applied Phevtechnology.
NguyenVan Thoan, a training expert of Ford Vietnam, said the ecoBoost was a designrevolution for the engine. The EcoBoost engine was voted best in class at theInternational Engine of the Year Awards from 2012 to 2015. The award ispresented by Engine Technology International magazine.
Theengine holds more than 125 patents, combines direct fuel injection, turbocharging and variable valve timing to ensure fuel economy by up to 20 percentover larger engines with no loss of performance.
Asone of the first global automakers in the Vietnamese market, Toyota Motor Grouphas led the way in Vietnam in supplying engines of the future.
YasukiNakagawa, Deputy Director of the Toyota Motor Asia Pacific Engineering &Manufacturing Co., Ltd’s Technical Centre, said the global expansion of variousindustries and technologies would increase the use of fossil fuels.
Whenoil supplies decrease, Nakagawa predicted that vehicles would face energyproblems. Meanwhile, the environment would be affected by carbon dioxideemissions, causing global warming and air pollution.
Toreach a greener society, Toyota introduced hybrids, which combine a petrolengine and an electric motor. They combine to deliver extra performance andoutstanding fuel efficiency.
YasukiNakagawa said the firm’s sales of Hybrid Toyota models had increased annually.Global sales hit nine million units in 2016 from more than one million units in2006.
MarcLlistosella, President and CEO of Mitsubishi Fuso Truck and Bus Corporation,said the third generation of the all-new electric truck Fuso eCanter could saveabout 25 million VND (1,104 USD) for each 10,000km of travelling, reducingoperation costs by 64 percent compared with trucks with diesel engines, anddecreasing maintenance costs by 30 percent.
Thedomestic automobile industry has been trying to balance manufacturing andtrading cars and environmental protection.
Automakers plan to focus on models which meetthe consumers’ demand for quality and minimise negative impacts on theenvironment.-VNA
