Bac Lieu (VNA) – The Mekong Delta province of BacLieu is building a high-tech shrimp farming area with the aim of becoming acentre of the country’s shrimp industry.
Approved by the Prime Minister in 2007, the area covers418.91 hectares in Hiep Thanh commune of Bac Lieu city.
The area is expected to facilitate the research andapplication of high technology into the shrimp industry, including productionof shrimp seeds and shrimp feed of the province as well as in the Ca Maupeninsular, the Mekong Delta and the whole country.
Bac Lieu has approved a project to make Bac Lieu a centre ofthe country’s shrimp industry with major targets of turning the province aleading locality in high technology research and application for brackish water shrimp farming, focusing onshrimp farming and processing, and acting as a connecting point of the industryin the whole region.

The locality is home to four businesses certified ashigh-tech agricultural firms, along with seven units meeting internationalstandards in aquatic farming./.
Vietnam has 30 provinces raising tiger prawn and whiteleg shrimp, of which the Mekong delta province of Ca Mau is leading in both the farming area and output. Ca Mau has chosen shrimp farming as a key industry prioritized for development.
