Hanoi (VNA) – Bamboo Airways recorded the highest on-time performance (OTP) among Vietnamese airlines in January, which coincided with the peak Lunar New Year (Tet) travel season, with 84.3% of its flights departing on schedule, according to the Civil Aviation Authority of Vietnam (CAAV).

The average OTP across Vietnam’s aviation industry in January 2025 stood at 60%, down 7.7 percentage points from February 2024, when the previous Tet was observed, the CAAV's preliminary data show.

Airlines that outperformed the industry average included Pacific Airlines (74.9%), Vietnam Airlines (69%), and VASCO (68.5%). Meanwhile, Vietravel Airlines reported an OTP of 57.2%, and Vietjet Air had the lowest rate at 46.8%.

The flight cancellation rate for January 2025 averaged 0.5%, up 0.3 percentage point from the previous Tet period.

The CAAV said increased passenger volume and adverse weather conditions like fog and low clouds at some northern airports were major causes of flight delays last month.

During the Tet holiday (January 24 – February 2, 2025), Vietnam’s aviation market handled 2.5 million passengers, a 17.8% increase year-on-year. International passenger traffic surged 23% to 1.35 million, while the domestic passenger volume rose 12% to 1.14 million.

Vietnamese airlines transported more than 1.67 million passengers, up 12.8% from a year earlier, along with nearly 7,000 tonnes of cargo, marking a 4% increase.

𒉰 International air travel accounted for over 536,000 passengers (up 14%) and 3,600 tonnes of cargo (up 1.1%), while domestic flights carried over 1.1 million passengers and 3,200 tonnes of cargo, up 12% and 7.4%, respectively./.
