Boao forum focuses on globalisation, free trade

The Boao Forum for Asia (BFA) Annual Conference 2017 is taking place in Boao town of China’s Hainan province from March 23-26 under the theme “Globalisation and Free Trade: The Asian Perspective”.

Beijing (VNA) – The Boao Forum for Asia (BFA)Annual Conference 2017 is taking place in Boao town of China’s Hainan provincefrom March 23-26 under the theme “Globalisation and Free Trade: The AsianPerspective”.

This year’s event attracts 1,727 delegates whoare politicians, businesspersons, scholars and reporters from 50 countries andregions, according to the forum’s secretariat. 

World leaders to the event include theMadagascar President, the Micronesian President, the Nepalese Prime Minister,and the Myanmar Vice President.

China’s Vice Premier Zhang Gaoli is scheduled todeliver a keynote speech at the opening ceremony on March 25. 

Some other Chinese representatives are Governorof the People’s Bank of China Zhou Xiaochuan, Chief Executive of Hong KongLeung Chun-ying, and President of the Asian Infrastructure Investment Bank JinLiqun.

With 42 sub-forums and 12 closed discussions,the forum will focus on such issues as globalisation, economic growth, reforms,regional cooperation, macro economy, political security, social welfare, andthe “One Belt, One Road” initiative.

Energy Asia 2025 kicks off in Malaysia

Malaysian Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim noted that the Asia-Pacific region accounted for half of global energy consumption and 60% of greenhouse gas emissions in 2024. Despite this, regional countries, including eight of ten ASEAN member states, remain committed to climate goals, including net-zero emissions and tripling global renewable capacity by 2030.
