British Prime Minister David Cameron will visit four Southeast Asian nations -Vietnam, Indonesia, Malaysia and Singapore- next week on a trade mission with a number of businesspeople, according to a local newspaper. In an article for the Daily Mail, Cameron describes Southeast Asia as a “region on the rise,” saying “Britain grabs every opportunity that brings.”
By 2030, Southeast Asia is predicted to be the fourth largest single market in the world. In other worlds, the wind of economic change is blowing east, he said. He highlighted the region’s potential for the UK, citing impressive figures such as the numbers of smartphones in Singapore, Indonesia’s internet users, and Vietnam’s cars bought every year.
“Modern-day trading shouldn't just be about the truckers going between Calais and Dover; it should be about the cargo planes landing in Jakarta and the container ships docking in Ho Chi Minh City,” he stressed. Also in his article, the British Prime Minister underlined that many in Southeast Asia have led the battle against corruption, saying Britain is joining them in that fight.-VNA
