Ca Mau (VNA) – The southernmost province of Ca Mau has completed the programme aimed at eliminating makeshift and substandard homes, nearly three months ahead of th🦩e local plan and five months earlier than the national schedule.

As of June 17, the province had achieved its target of supporting the construction and renovation of 4,400 homes, with a total budget of over 235 billion VND (about 9 million USD). Speaking at a conference held on June 18 to review the implementation of the programme, Secretary of the provincial Party Committee Nguyen Ho Hai highlighted that the programme demonstrated the strength of national unity and the collective efforts of the entire political system and society. In addition to funding from central and local budgets, Party members and public servants across the province voluntarily contributed at least one day’s salary. Youth union members, police, military personnel, and local residents also actively contributed materials, labour, and financial support.
Several localities have met their targets ahead of schedule, including Ca Mau city and the districts of Ngoc Hien, Tran Van Thoi, and Dam Doi. In many areas, support levels exceeded the standard. For example, Ca Mau city provided 70 million VND per house, while Ngoc Hien district allocated 100 million VND to each household with meritorious service to the nation or family of fallen soldiers. Each household also received an additional 5 million VND for the construction of hygienic latrines, funded through social contributions. Hai praised the decisive guidance from central authorities, the proactive involvement of all levels and sectors, and the strong support from businesses, kind-hearted individuals and organisations both within and outside the province.
However, he noted, given the ongoing risks from climate change and natural disasters, housing vulnerabilities remain. The province will therefore continue to review cases and implement supportive policies to help residents stabilise their lives. On this occasion, Ca Mau launched a new livelihood support programme for poor, near-poor, policy-beneficiary households as well as ethnic minorities for the 2025–2027 period, aimed at promoting sustainable poverty reduction and inclusive economic growth. The province also honoured 16 organisations and individuals for their contributions to the housing programme. Certificates of merit from the Chairperson of the provincial People’s Committee were awarded to 75 collectives and 154 individuals for their outstanding achievements in emulation movements./.
