Ca Mau (VNA) – The southernmost province of Ca Mau will strive to send 1,000local labourers to work abroad during 2018-2020, heard a conference held in thelocality on May 24.
Some 340 labourers will work under contract in Australia, Japan, the Republicof Korea, and Taiwan (China) every year.
According to Truong Linh Phuong, Director of the provincial Department ofLabour, Invalids and Social Affairs, under the project, the province willchannel focus on training skillful workers so that they can master advancedequipment and technologies.
The project will priotise relatives of people who rendered services to therevolution, ethnic people, impoverished people, and those whose agricultural landis revoked. Also, it will pay due attention to creating jobs for graduates,helping them gain experience and improve profession.
Local labourers will receive a maximum financial support of 13.8 million VND(607.2 USD) each to cover vocational and foreign language training fees andliving and travelling costs. Those who go to work in foreign countries will beassisted with visa fees.
The project will be carried out at a total expenditure of 125 billion VND (5.5million USD), 34 billion VND (1.49 million USD) of which, coming from thenational fund, will be used to provide initial support for 260 labourers.Meanwhile, capital from the national target programme on sustainable povertyreduction will give non-refundable support to 40 workers.
The provincial budget will set aside 179.4 million VND (7,890 USD) to aid nearpoor residents in impoverished and disadvantaged communes.
Than Duc Huong, head of the project’s steering board and Vice Chairman of theprovincial People’s Committee, said that the province has more than 708,000labourers, or 56 percent of the total population. Of the total, workers inrural areas account for 79 percent and unemployment rate is now at 2.38percent.
Employment support policies are necessary for the local sustainable socio-economicdevelopment, he said.-VNA
