The People’s Committee of the southernmost province of Ca Mau has decided to allocate two billion VND (90,000 USD) from the “For the poor” fund to help build houses for 80 needy local families. The beneficiaries are from 21 communes and wards in U Minh, Dam Doi, Cai Nuoc, Tran Van Thoi districts, and Ca Mau city.
Since 2010, the fund has mobilized between 5-6 billion VND (220,000 – 270,000 USD) per year from organisations, groups, enterprises and individuals, of which a significant amount is spent on upgrading housing conditions for needy people.
So far this year, a total of 10 billion VND (450,000 USD) has been raised, surpassing the year’s target. Chairman of the provincial chapter of the Vietnam Fatherland Front Trinh Minh Thanh said the province will continue calling for more donations to help local impoverished households.-VNA
