Ca Mau works to promote fishery sector

The Mekong Delta province of Ca Mau has applied a number of measures to boost the development of the local fishery sector as part of efforts to optimise local advantages.

Ca Mau (VNA) – The Mekong Delta province of Ca Mau has applied anumber of measures to boost the development of the local fishery sector as partof efforts to optimise local advantages.

In implementing a project on restructuring theagriculture sector, with a breakthrough in shrimp farming, the province hasencouraged locals to apply ecological shrimp farming models as well as models meetinginternational standards.

Ca Mau has also offered financial assistance to fishermen in building and upgradingvessels.

The province currently has 91 vessels eligiblefor receiving the support. Commercial banks in the locality have to date signedlending contracts with 32 ship owners with total loans of 325 billion VND.

[Ca Mau looks to develop shrimp sector]

Su Van Minh, Vice Chairman of the People’sCommittee of Tran Van Thoi district, said the district has launched 18 ships newlybuilt with the support, joining the fleet of 2,300 ships of the locality.

Minh said that the locality will continueupgrading the capacity of the fleet, while setting up fishing cooperatives andmultiply outstanding models in the field.

According to the provincial People’s Committee,total seafood output of the province in the eight months of 2017 fetched339,500 tonnes, equal to 64 percent of the yearly target, up 3.5 percent yearon year, including 109,330 tonnes shrimps, a rise of 5.6 percent.

Alongside, the province’s catch reached 137,200tonnes, including 9,530 tonnes of shrimp. Total seafood exports of Ca Mau hitover 616 million USD.-VNA
