Canada launches investigation into cold-rolled steel from China, RoK, Vietnam

The Canada Border Services Agency (CBSA) announced on May 25 that it is launching an investigation into cold-rolled steel in coils or cut lengths originating in or exported from China, the Republic of Korea (RoK) and Vietnam.

Ottawa (VNA) – TheCanada Border Services Agency (CBSA) announced on May 25 that it is launchingan investigation into cold-rolled steel in coilsor cut lengths originating in or exported from China, the Republic of Korea (RoK) and Vietnam.

The agency will coordinate with the Canadian InternationalTrade Tribunal (CITT) to investigate whether or not the products are being sold at unfair and/or subsidized pricesin Canada.

The investigation will examine cold-rolledsteel commonly used in the production and manufacture of a range of goodsincluding household appliances, drums, tubing, furniture and strapping. Cold-rolledsteel used for automobile production is not the subject of the investigation.

On May 18, Canada also began an anti-dumpinginvestigation into suckerrods from China.

Currently, there are 99 special import measures in force inCanada, covering a wide variety of industrial and consumer products, from steelproducts to refined sugar.

In 2017, the steel industry created jobs for more than 23,000labourers in Canada and contributed 4.2 billion CAD (over 3.2 billion USD) tothe national economy.-VNA
