Children with hydrocephalus to get free surgery

HCM City (VNA) – About 500children with hydrocephalus will receive free surgery financed by the Hang HuuCharity Fund starting this year, announced Chairwoman of the Hang Huu Heart ProgrammeNguyen Phuong Hang in Ho Chi Minh City on March 12.

The programme will be carried out simultaneouslywith the fund’s another providing free heart surgery for children from disadvantagedfamilies nationwide, which has been carried out since 2014, Hang said.

In addition, the Hang Huu Heart Programmewill provide local hospitals with necessary equipment for the surgery.

Families of child patients with congenitalcardiac disease and hydrocephalus can register for free surgery at the Cho RayHospital and the Children’s Hospital No.1 in HCM City, and the Da Nang GeneralHospital.

According to doctor Phan Minh Tri from theChildren’s Hospital No.1, hydrocephalus is among most dangerous diseases for newbornbabies, causing direct harms to the patients’ nervous system and leaving severeafter-effects without prompt and suitable treatment.

As surgery is the only cure, each year, thehospital performs up to 70 operations on children with hydrocephalus in the southernregion, he added. -VNA
