The Centre for Live and Learn for Environment and Community (Live andLearn) reported on the supervision of vulnerability to climate change ofVietnam in 2012, at its meeting on January 10 in Hanoi.

Live and Learn representative Nguyen Quang Thanh quoted figures in theClimate Vulnerability Initiative’s report released in September lastyear in New York, which forecast that climate change can cause lossesequivalent to 5 percent of GDP in Vietnam each year, amounting to 15billion USD and even more if the country fails to take effectivesolutions.
In addition, the rising sea level will also deprive Vietnam of an estimated 4 billion USD annually, he said.
The programme of supervising vulnerability to climate change is aglobal-scaled research focusing on current and future impacts of climatechange on socio-economy.
On the occasion, Prof. LeVu Anh, head of the Hanoi School of Public Health and President of thePublic Health Association of Vietnam, also shared information on impactsof climate change on the public health.
The workinggroup for climate change presented updated results of research on thecurrent situation of climate change in Vietnam and national-leveland community efforts in the field.
