At the ceremony to mark the connection on October 16, NationalAssembly Vice Chairwoman Tong Thi Phong said the event is important tonot only Quang Ninh province, but also to the whole nation, marking astep forward in improving the living conditions of disadvantagedislanders.

She hoped the stable power supply willhelp the island’s socio-economic development, thus contributing todefending the national sea and islands.

According toNguyen Phuc Vinh, President and CEO of the Northern ElectricityCorporation, the project is the first of its kind in Vietnam withabout 30 kilometres of cables running on the seabed at a depth of up to30 metres.

The 1.1-trillion-VND project, begun in last December, was unprecedented in its quality and speedy implementation, he said.-VNA
