Local attendees, mostly from thecentral provinces of Quang Ngai, Quang Nam, Quang Binh and QuangTri, and Ho Chi Minh City, heard reports on treating children withreproductive organ disorders, as well as the importance of prenatalscreening.
According to Prof. Robeto DeCastro,representative of the Asian Injury Prevention Foundation, malformationsof reproductive organs occur in one in every 20 million children inVietnam and should be treated timely to ensure children with malformedreproductive organs have their right sexes.
Over the past year, Prof. DeCastro has successfully operated on 50children with such ailments. All patients have recovered both physicallyand psychologically.
He donated his time to performsurgery on six boys between the ages of 10 months and 7 years withinthe framework of the conference.
In August 2012, theAsia Injury Prevention Foundation and Da Nang Children and MidwiferyHospital signed a memorandum of understanding to help the hospitalacquire the technology needed to treat children with malformedreproductive organs in the central region.-VNA
