Da Lat aims to become top vegetable producer in Southeast Asia
Local authorities of Da Lat city in the Central Highlands province of Lam Dong has approved a plan to turn the city into the top producer of vegetables in Southeast Asia.

The city also aims to become the number-onedestination for agricultural tourism in Vietnam. Accordingly, the city will develop comprehensiveand sustainable high-tech agriculture and improve its investment environment inthe 2016-2020 period. The city hopes that high technology will beapplied in 65-70 percent of its farming land areas, equivalent to 7,000hectares. The agricultural sector’s production value isexpected to hit 4,346 billion VND (193 million USD), of which vegetable andflower exports account for 20 percent. Besides, Da Lat city will develop sustainableagricultural models in combination with tourism and agricultural services.-VNA
After the Lunar New Year of the Horse 2014, many vegetables grown in Da Lat city, Lam Dong province and neighbouring areas (branded Da Lat vegetables) dropped in price significantly, said the Communist Party of Vietnam(CPV) online newspaper on March 5.
With favourable natural conditions, 122-year-old Da Lat city is working to secure a role as a key agricultural and tourism centre in the Lam Dong Central Highland province.
Developing quality tourism and hi-tech agriculture is one of the top priority tasks in Da Lat city’s economic development plan for the 2015-2020 period, as determined at the city’s freshly-ended Party Congress.
As the Central Highlands province of Lam Dong was aiming to expand the export of Da Lat flowers from the current 10 percent of output to 30 percent by 2020, greater efforts were needed.
With the current trading band of +/- 5%, the ceiling rate applicable for commercial banks during the day is 26,276 VND/USD and the floor rate 23,774 VND/USD.
