Da Nang, Champasak enjoy sound cooperation

Da Nang (VNA) – Secretary of the PartyCommittee and Governor of Laos’ Champasak province Bounthong Divixay and Secretaryof the Party Committee of the central provinceof Da Nang Nguyen Xuan Anh reviewed cooperationbetween the localities during a meeting in Da Nang on November 29.

Da Nang and Champasak have enjoyed a strong partnership,especially in education and culture. The two sides signed two memorandums ofunderstanding and a statement on cooperation in the field.

In 2010-2012, Da Nang supportedChampasak in implementing 11 projects with a total investment of 7.578 billionVND. All the projects are now operational.

In 2013-2017, Da Nang will send twoVietnamese teachers to work at the Vietnamese Language Centre of Champasak,while investing 1.27 billion VND in a lighting system in Pakse town.

The city will continueassisting the Lao locality in design and planning to upgrade Pakse town to acity.

Da Nang granted scholarships totalling 1.462 billion VND toChampasak students from 2013 to 2015. The city helped Champasak upgradeKhongsedone secondary school with a total capital of 7.5 billion VND.

Da Nang’s exports to Laos in the first nine months of2016 reached 18.7 million USD. Four Da Nangcompanies invest in Laoswith a total capital of nearly 52.3 million USD.

Since 2002, Da Nang Universityhas received 750 Lao students, while awarding 43 scholarships for students fromsouthern provinces of Laos.The number of Lao students studying in DaNang without scholarships has increased to 300.-VNA
