Da Nang City strives to increase job opportunities

The central coastal city of Da Nang has implemented a number of practical measures to boost the local job market, especially for rural and disadvantaged labourers.

Some18,400 workers have found jobs since the beginning of 2015, a 10.76percent rise compared to the same period last year. The number accountsfor 58.41 percent of the annual plan, according to the municipalDepartment of Labour, Invalids and Social Affairs.

Nearly 4,000job-seekers were employed as a result of the 13 job fairs held in thecity. Three job fairs were organised per month with a view to increasingthe chance of unemployed citizens finding a job.

Da Nang hasprovided tuition fee assistance for employees and job-seekers enrolledin the vocational training courses run by municipal enterprises. Everyqualified trainee is assured a job at one of the businesses after coursecompletion.

In addition, the Department also collaborated withthe municipal Communist Youth Union to run “enterprise startup” coursesgeared at local youth and students who want to set up their ownbusinesses. Course participants will be trained on idea development,business plan formulation, market analyses and financial management.

Providing local residents access to preferential loans to expand their business is another priority for the city.

DaNang is currently in the process of building a database on the supplyand demand of workers as part of its efforts to analyse the labourmarket. This will help the city adjust its planning accordingly in orderto tackle job issues in years to come.

As many as 784,000workers nationwide secured jobs during the first six months of 2015, upby 3.4 percent compared to the same period last year, the Ministry ofLabour, Invalids and Social Affairs (MoLISA) confirmed. Approximately53,000 guest workers were sent to work abroad, accounting for 58.8percent of the annual plan.-VNA
