– The Department of Farm Produce Processing and Market Development madeits debut at a ceremony held by the Ministry of Agriculture and RuralDevelopment (MARD) in Hanoi on June 21.

According to MARD Minister Nguyen Xuan Cuong, processing and marketing remain weaknesses of Vietnam’sagricultural sector, and disconnection between production and marketdevelopment results in low revenues.

It is necessary to intensify marketing work to enable local agriculturalproducts to assess new markets, he said.

He asked the department to cooperate closely with ministries, especially theMinistry of Industry and Trade (MoIT), business associations and farmers inmarket study, analysis and forecast, towards producing clean and good-priceproducts for domestic consumption and export, bringing high economic values tothe sector.

MoIT Deputy Minister Tran Quoc Khanh said his ministry will continue standingside by side with the agricultural sector in promoting the nation’s farmproduce.

The establishment of the department shows the MARD’s vital strategy in developingmarkets for agricultural products, contributing to connecting production withprocessing and market expansion.

At the launching ceremony, the department signed cooperation agreements with anumber of relevant domestic and foreign organisations.-VNA
