Hanoi (VNA) – Vietnam expects to receive assistance from the Southeast Asia Semiconductor Association (SEMI SEA) to realise its aspiration for becoming a centre for semiconductor research, AI development and human resources training in these critical sectors, Deputy Prime Minister Nguyen Chi Dung has said.

Hosting a reception for a delegation from SEMI SEA, led by its President Linda Tan, in Hanoi on April 16, Dung praised the association for its initiatives supporting Vietnam's semiconductor industry development over the recent past.

The Deputy PM revealed that Vietnam is intensifying efforts to achieve its goal of training 50,000 engineers for the semiconductor industry by 2030, requesting SEMI SEA and its member companies coordinate with Vietnam's Ministry of Finance and the National Innovation Centre (NIC) to implement this training programme.

He emphasised Vietnam's commitment to improving its institutional framework, improving the investment environment, and ensuring macroeconomic stability. The government pledged to support investors amidst rapid and unpredictable changes in the region and the world, creating favourable conditions for SEMI SEA members to invest effectively in Vietnam.

Dung asked SEMI SEA to advise on competitive, attractive policies to attract more investors and develop Vietnam's semiconductor industry across all stage - from design and packaging to testing and manufacturing. He also requested the association to promote Vietnam's investment environment and connect investors, scientists, and experts within its network to explore opportunities in Vietnam.

🍒 Linda Tan, for her part, noted that this working trip to Vietnam demonstrates SEMI SEA's strong commitment to advancing the country's semiconductor industry, adding the delegation is also preparing for the Vietnam Semiconductor Industry Exhibition 2025 slated for November./.
