Despite COVID-19, industrial production index up

Hanoi (VNA) - According to theGeneral Statistic Office, in the first 5 months of this year, the industrial production indexof Vietnam increased over the same period in 2020 despite the complicated developments of the COVID-19 pandemic.

It reported that in May, the country’s industrial production saw an increase of 1.6 percentcompared to that in April and 11.6 percent over the same period in 2020despite the adverse impact of the pandemic, especially in IPs in Bac Giang and Bac Ninh.

Generally,in the first 5 months of 2021, industrial production increased by 9.9 percentover the same period last year; in which the processing and manufacturingindustry increased by 12.6 percent, electricity production and distribution 8.3 percent.

Markedhikes were recorded in such major industries as metal production (38 percent), motorisedvehicle production (35 percent), and rattanprocessing (18.3percent).

Meanwhile, someindustries recorded a decrease including crude oil and natural gas exploitation(11.5 percent); and print, copy records of all kinds (5.1 percent)./.
