Hanoi (VNA) - The resounding Dien Bien Phu Victory that forced France𝐆 to sign the Geneva Agreement, ending the war in Indochina, is a testament of the strength ofও not only national solidarity, but also of the spirit of mutual support among fraternal states.

Associate Professor, Doctor, Colonel Hoang Van Phai, Rector of the Military Institute of Social Sciences and Humanity under the Political Academy, the Ministry of Defence, said the Vietnamese revolution utilised the strength of the era and international solidarity to help make the victory possible. The Party takes note of the great help from the governments and peoples of China and the Soviet Union, the coordination of the fraternal Lao revolutionary forces, the support from the French people and peace loving citizens all over the world, he said. In the 1950-1964 period, the agreement between the Party Central Committees, the General Military Committees and the Ministries of Defencewas implemented between China and Vietnam. China not only provided material assistance in terms of guns, artillery, shells, etc., but also sent a team of military advisors to work at the General Command of the Vietnam People’s Army, directly supporting the operation of a number of its regular units. Chinese Ambassador to Vietnam Xiong Bo stressed the Dien Bien Phu Victory of the Vietnamese people is a great achievement in the struggle against imperialist and colonialist forces and of the struggle for justice by other Asian nations who were invaded and suppressed.
According to him, the Vietnamese and Chinese armies are always important pillars in developing relations between the two Parties and countries, playing an important role in further consolidating and deepening the mutual political, security and strategic trust. The diplomat said that the two armies are pioneers in implementing the strategic agreement reached by their top leaders. He said he hopesthat the two sides will continue drawing experiences and make the border defence, and friendship exchange activities more and more practical, helping deepen the bilateral comprehensive strategic cooperation partnership. According to researchers, with a righteous foreign policy, in the nine years of the resistance war against the French colonialists, Vietnamese people always received great support and assistance from the peace loving peoples in the world, the socialist countries, and especially the Vietnam-Laos-Cambodia solidarity. Colonel Phai affirmed the victory manifests the solidarity among the Indochinese peoples in the struggle against the common foe – French colonialism.
Lao Ambassador to Vietnam Khamphao Ernthavanh agreed with that viewpoint, saying the victory of the Vietnamese army and peopleis a great one, with important contributions of the specialVietnam-Laos-Cambodia combatant alliance and the close coordination from the Pathet Lao liberation army. Throughout the resistance war against the French colonialists, the Lao army and people stood by their Vietnamese peers in the battlefields of Indochina, she said. The victories in Central and Lower Laos caused heavy losses to the enemy, creating favourable conditions for the Vietnamese army to win victories from the north to the south, especially the historical Dien Bien Phu Victory. In her opinion, in the period after the national liberation, the three Indochinese countries continued to nurture the relations and strengthen mutual trust, keeping negative forces from distorting relations, and helping maintain peace, security and stability in Indochina and the ASEAN. She said that the Dien Bien Phu Victory encouraged the armies and peoples of both Vietnam and Laos to continue their resistance wars, bringing their revolutions to the complete victories in 1975. Entering the new period of national construction and defense, the two Parties, armies and peoples continue to nurture Vietnam-Laos relations of great friendship, special solidarity, and comprehensive cooperation in all fields, for prosperity of each country and for peace, cooperation, and development in the region and the world over.
In the fast and complex development of the regional and world situation, the historical lesson of the Vietnam-Laos relations still holds its value, the diplomat stressed, adding that the relations not seen anywhere else in the world must be further nurtured./.
