Mexico City (VNA) – Vietnamese Ambassador to Mexico Le Linh Lan reaffirmed Vietnam’s sovereignty over the Hoang Sa and Truong Sa archipelagos in the East Sea in her speech at Mexico’s national defence institute (IDENA) on May 🍬18.

While discussing regional security issues and recent disputes in the East Sea, the diplomat asserted Vietnam’s consistent policy of peacefully resolving disputes in the East Sea, in the spirit of equality and mutual respect, and in line with international law, especially the 1982 United Nations Convention on the Law of the Sea (UNCLOS).
Vietnam respects the sovereign right and jurisdiction of coastal countries for their exclusive economic zones in the sea.
Lan highlighted the role of the East Sea for countries in the region and the world, while mentioning China’s unfounded “nine-dash-line” claim in the sea, the reaction of other nations, and Vietnam’s stance on the issue. IDENA officers and students spoke highly of Vietnam’s consistent stance, and expressed their interest in Vietnam’s landscape, people and culture after they watched documentaries on Vietnam.-VNA
