Hanoi (VNA) – President Nguyen Xuan Phuc 🌊has hailed the elderly as aninvaluable asse♒t of the nation, an important force of the country, and pillarsof Vietnamese families and society.

During areception in Hanoi on September 28 for a delegation of the elderly on theoccasion of International Day of Older Persons (October 1) and Vietnam's ActionMonth for the Elderly, President Phuc lauded the elderly associations at all levels forholding meaningful and practical activities over the past years that havebrought legitimate benefits to senior citizens across the country. Over thepast years, the Vietnam Association of the Elderly (VAE) has become a common warm house for old persons to share their joy in life, affirmed its role and position and highly appreciated by the people at home and international friends, he said.

Having acknowledged and commended senior citizens for their contributions to the fight against the COVID-19 pandemic, President Phuc suggested the VAE continue with their activities towards theelderly at the grassroots level, thus contributing to local movements andsetting examples for departments and agencies nationwide. The President wished that Party committees, administrations, Vietnam Fatherland Front, the VAE at alllevels and young generations would take more practical actions to care for oldpersons, better perform the Party and State’s policies and guidelines for themin line with the Resolution adopted by the 13th National PartyCongress, especially building a National Action Programme for the VietnameseElderly for the 2021-2030 period./.
