Expert group formed to select Long Thanh airport’s best design

Deputy PM Trinh Dinh Dung has asked the Ministry of Transport to form an advisory group with experts in airport architecture to select the best design for Long Thanh Airport’s terminal in Dong Nai.

Hanoi (VNA) – DeputyPrime Minister Trinh Dinh Dung has asked the Ministry of Transport to form anadvisory group with experts in airport architecture to select the best designfor Long Thanh International Airport’s terminal in the southern province ofDong Nai.

At a meeting on March 13 inHanoi, he suggested that each ministry and sector should send one or tworepresentatives to the group as experts, not management officials.

Within 10 days, the group shouldsubmit a report on the discussions and a proposal for the most suitableselection, which will serve as a reference for Prime Minister Nguyen Xuan Phucto make the final decision, he asked.

He also said that Long Thanhairport is an important national project with huge State investment.

It must fufill important criteria in function andeffectiveness, while being low cost, saving energy, and meeting environmentalfriendly standards, he said.

Earlier, three outstanding designs out of nine proposalswere chosen, including one in the shape of a lotus flower (LT-03) submitted bya Republic of Korea company.

A design from a Vietnam-Japan-Singapore joint venturefeatures coconut tree details (LT-07), while the other designed by aJapan-France joint venture uses bamboo furniture (LT-04).

According to the Ministry of Transport, LT-03 won the mostpublic and trade association votes, while the majority of visitors to theministry’s website chose LT-07.-VNA
