Hanoi (VNA) – The sixth Vietnam Book Day kicked off in Hanoi on April 18 with a book festival, attracting over 90 publishers and 100 stalls.

Speaking at the opening ceremony, Deputy Minister of Information and Communications Hoang Vinh Bao said Prime Minister Nguyen Xuan Phuc issued Decision No.284/QD-TTg on February 24, 2014 designating April 21 as Vietnam Book Day in order to encourage reading culture among the public.

During the five-day festival, an exhibition will be held featuring artefacts and images of ancient books made from a variety of materials.

A seminar on developing a reading campaign as well as a national conference reviewing the five-year implementation of the PM’s decision on Vietnam Book Day are also planned as part of the framework.
