The announcement was made following the signing of a Host Country Agreement (HCA) between President of the Indonesian Football Association (PSSI) Erick Thohir and FIFA President Gianni Infantino on June 17, during the 2025 FIFA Executive Football Summit in Miami, the US. According to Thohir, the new FIFA Hub in Jakarta will not only support football development in Indonesia but also serve as a coordination centre for 21 football associations across Southeast and East Asia.
He emphasised that this move marks a strategic expansion of FIFA’s role in the region, aligning with President Infantino’s vision of promoting global football growth on an equal footing. Infantino praised recent reforms in Indonesian football and recognised the country’s progress in overcoming internal challenges. He affirmed that the decision to establish the regional hub in Jakarta reflects FIFA’s long-term commitment to football development in Asia.
The agreement builds upon a memorandum of understanding signed in November 2023 and will soon be formalised through Indonesia’s Ministry of Youth and Sports. At the same summit, PSSI was also honoured with the FIFA Forward Gold Award, which recognises its effective implementation of national football development projects, including the establishment of a new national training centre in Nusantara, Indonesia’s upcoming capital in East Kalimantan./.
