First breeding shrimp farm in Vietnam meets OIE standards
A breeding shrimp farm of the Viet-Uc Seafood Corporation in the Mekong Delta province of Bac Lieu has become the first in Vietnam to fulfill criterion set by the World Organisation for Animal Health (OIE).

Bac Lieu (VNA) – A breeding shrimp farmof the Viet-Uc Seafood Corporation in the Mekong Delta province of Bac Lieu hasbecome the first in Vietnam to fulfill criterion set by the World Organisationfor Animal Health (OIE).
Since 2015, the provincial Departments of AnimalHealth and of Agriculture and Rural Development have assisted the company tobuild its safe shrimp production chain.
On October 5, 2018, the Department of Animal Healthissued a decision accrediting the Viet – Uc farm’s fulfillment ofOIE-recommended standards set for a disease-free shrimp breeding facility.
At a ceremony announcing Vietnam’s first OIE-standardshrimp farm held in Bac Lieu city on November 25, Chairman of the National Assembly’sCommittee for Science, Technology and Environment Phan Xuan Dung said theaccreditation will create a big opportunity for Vietnamese shrimps to enterdemanding markets in the world, helping to realise the goal of 10 billion USDin export turnover in 2025.
Phung Duc Tien, Deputy Minister of Agriculture andRural Development, highlighted the event as a turning point and success of thecompany and the shrimp sector as well.
It will open a sustainable development path forVietnam’s shrimp production and export in the future, he added.
Dang Quoc Tuan, Vice President and Chief OperationsOfficer of the Viet-Uc Seafood Corporation, said his enterprise is investing intechnology and human resources in search of measures to boost the shrimpindustry’s value and sustainable development.
According to him, an increasing number of countriesin the world are requiring shrimp products to have a disease-freecertification. As such, the building of safe shrimp production chains isimportant and necessary.
Among the biggestshrimp producers in Vietnam, the Viet-Uc Seafood Corporation is operatingshrimp farms from Nghe An to Ca Mau.
The Vietnam Association of Seafood Exporters andProducers (VASEP) said shrimp exports contributed the most to the totalnational aquatic export value, with a growth rate of 21 percent to 3.8 billionUSD in export value for 2017.-VNA
