Foreign leaders extend sympathy over severe floods in central region

The Premier of the State Council of China, Li Keqiang on October 22 sent a message of sympathy to Prime Minister Nguyen Xuan Phuc over the serious flooding in some provinces in central Vietnam that caused heavy losses on human lives and assets.

Hanoi (VNA) – The Premier of the State Council of China, Li Keqiang on October 22 sent a message ofsympathy to Prime Minister Nguyen Xuan Phuc over the serious flooding in someprovinces in central Vietnam that caused heavy losses on human lives and assets.  

The same day, Chinese Foreign Minister Wang Yi and Singaporean Foreign Minister Vivian Balakrishnan also extended their sympathy to Deputy Prime Minister and ForeignMinister Pham Binh Minh.

According to the Central Steering Committee for Natural DisasterPrevention and Control, flooding that began on October 6 had killed 111 peopleand left 22 missing nationwide as of 7am on October 21. Some 371 ha of rice paddies have been submerged,7,126 ha of crops damaged, and over 700,000 heads of cattle and poultry killedor swept away.

The floods also inflicted substantial damage upon localagriculture, irrigation, and transport infrastructure./.
