Forum on sustainable development held in Vinh Phuc

Vinh Phuc (VNA) –Hundreds of international experts and businessmen gathered at a forum in thenorthern province of Vinh Phuc on December 12 to seek ways to promotesustainable development.

The event was organised by theMinistry of Natural Resources and Environment and the Vietnam Chamber ofCommerce and Industry.

Participants joined discussedmeasures to promote economic development while protecting the environment andrealising sustainable development goals.

Deputy Minister Vo Tuan Nhan underlinedthe achievements Vietnam has made in international integration, particularly increating jobs for Vietnamese labourers, promoting poverty reduction and hungereradication.

Vietnam is an attractive destinationfor foreign investors, which presents opportunities for domestic enterprises toexpand their operations and join the value chains of multinational groups, Nhanadded.

Nhan also pointed to the environmentaleffects of international integration, and attributed the issues to a lack ofattention to sustainable development strategies among enterprises.

Deputy Director General of the Ministry’s Vietnam Environment Administration Hoang Van Thuc said Vietnam wishesto encourage green lifestyles and production. Therefore, enterprises have toinvest in environmentally-friendly production technologies.

Pham Van Loi, Director of theMinistry’s Environmental Science Institute called on businesses to betterobserve the Law on Environmental Protection 2014 on disclosing informationabout environmental issues.

Relevant management bodies andcommunities also need to strengthen their supervision of the matter.

Representatives from businessessuggested the State develop more regulations on environmental protection andsupervision.-VNA
