Free coaches sponsored by trade union organisations and local authorities are bringing thousands of migrant workers back to their hometowns as the Lunar New Year festival (Tet) is only a few days away.

Hanoi (VNA) – Free coaches sponsored by tradeunion organisations and local authorities are bringing thousands of migrant workersback to their hometowns as the Lunar New Year festival (Tet) is only a few daysaway.

On February 11, hundreds of coaches departedfrom Thang Long, Quang Minh, Noi Bai, Thach That, and Phu Thi industrial parks inHanoi, carrying workers to their hometowns.

2018 is the 10th consecutive year the HanoiConfederation of Labour arranged coaches for disadvantaged workers ahead ofTet.

Aside from the free coaches, trade unions at alllevels in Hanoi also assisted labourers with more than 32,000 bus tickets,presented 56,500 gift packages, and organised Tet celebrations.

In Binh Duong – an industrial hub of thesouthern region, coaches arranged by the provincial Confederation of Labour carriedabout 4,000 workers to reunite with their families on February 11.

Tet gifts and some 3,800 free bus tickets werealso presented to workers.

The Binh Duong labour confederation said this isthe eighth year the programme has been held, adding that the province’sauthorities at all levels have presented 9,100 gift packages worth over 4.5billion VND (198,400 USD) to workers.

More than 1 million labourers are working inBinh Duong, and about 85 percent of them come from other provinces and cities,according to Vice Chairman of the provincial People’s Committee Dang MinhHung.-VNA
